Wenlock & Mandeville
It’s probably taken most of us a couple of years to get used to the London 2012 Olympic logo, which was kind of the point, i guess. Yesterday, on the BBC’s godawful The One Show, we were introduced to not one, but two Olympic mascots Wenlock & Mandeville.
Look at them, all shiny and new. THAT, is the future.
Or, as one person as already put it over on the Creative Review blog;
Hmm… two slick, glossy, near-identical characters claiming to represent the nation… one blue, one yellow…. swear it reminds me of something…
...and in Union Jack mode.
Personally, I think they look better draped in the Union Jack but ultimately i’m not sure if I like them or not. They’re kinda cute. Kinda. And i’m sure there have been worse mascots too. But not this one. If you say that one, you’re out of the designer’s club…

Worth a mention that their social media personas are also live. And boring. Not sure the Olympic regime is cut out for creating anything more than benal tweets, blog posts and videos – but let’s wait and see. It hasn’t started well, the current blogpost from Mandeville is titled: A Quick Rest.
