Obama’s ‘assassination’* gives Fox News a red face

Oops – another Twitter episode for the blooper reel. One of Fox News’ verified Twitter profiles @FoxNewsPolitics was hacked today (probably by Script Kiddie according to the Beeb) and proceeded to announce the (fake and frankly tasteless) assassination of President Barack Obama. Ouch.

Anyway – before they disappear from the internet for good – here are the hacked tweets. This whole tawdry episode is further evidence, if anyone should need it, that branded social media profiles are going to increasingly become a target for hackers and protesters. Brands should not only have a system of password protection, but also a plan of action to deal with malicious activity. Using well-informed and secure agencies to coordinate social media profiles can reduce the risk of this sort of episode – but it can never be eliminated for high profile and high risk businesses or news organisations.

*Obama is not dead. That’s sort of what the post is about.

We get the point hackers. You are very clever.

Now, go away. It’s not big and it’s not clever (although technically I suppose it is). And it’s not grown up!
