I want to be a PR girl!

This one’s a guest post from the lovely @sarahhinchliffe who spent a week with us in January (when Kate was off on her jollies!) and has been back in over the last few weeks…

… Since leaving the University of Salford last month, with the excitement of graduation, I wanted something new and fun to do. I’ve got a part time job, but not in the career I would like to pursue. No I don’t want to work in a café for the rest of my life, I want to be a PR girl!

Revealing our true colours

You can imagine the surprise (or should I say look of horror) on our faces when Northern PR gals, Kate and I, were asked, mid meeting, to take our make-up off and were passed a packet of face wipes.

But, being in the company of the big boss and the even bigger client, who were we to say no? After all getting to know your clients, inside out, is the name of the game, especially when we’re talking about consumer clients. Our role is to represent the company and its products, so… make-up removal it was.

Measurable PR: juxtaposition, or just impossible?

It’s become the norm; when talking about PR you are, more often than not, faced with the age old question, ‘how do I know it’s generating a return?’

I say this with a slight air of exaggeration – of course our clients don’t ask this because coverage flies in by the gallon (!) but, hypothetically, it’s always a tricky question to answer and one where the answer can’t often be set in stone.

Taking PR to the street

Whilst it’s good to get your head down, trawl through the emails, tidy the desk and make sure everything’s in order… making the odd trip out on behalf of the client is crucial… so the Manifest Comms girls decided to do just that yesterday.

Not believing in doing things in half measures, and in need of something a little bit, erm… unique, we took with us our trusted friend, Babs (while the London PR gals took the Southern counterpart, Daisy for a trip on the tube…)

Tracking flushes? What’s ‘app’ening?

In the ‘there’s an app for that’ world of today and after the news yesterday that Domestos has launched an app to track toilet flushes (not to mention the ‘app-ropriate’ spread in The Drum) I’ve started wondering whether all these apps are just really very clever, or whether some of them are a little OTT?!
